Our Greenery is the first vertical farm company combining premium design, smart tech & real impact to grow plants. The project goal is to create an app that connects the main product Raumgarten with the indoor farming team.

Although the end goal of the Business is to create an app for the end users, the strategy is starting with a more complex product for the specialized team in order to easily make the improvements necessary to the product.

Target Group: Experts Team
Timeframe: Jun — July 2022 | Phase 1

UX Research

The starting point was empathizing & understanding the needs and goals on a business perspective as well as the specialized users for this project. I met with the indoor farm team and engineers, as well as the developer and went over the analytics. I identified some important insights:

Experts team insight:
"Creating food is a stressful process"

What they know:
"People want to eat fresh and reduce food waste"
"Users don’t want to use complicated software"

The main goal of their work is to transform vertical indoor farming seamlessly for the end users. To do so they need to run uncountable tests and implement the improvements to the product and test it. It's also essential to the business goals that the end user will have a smooth experience using the Indoor farm connected to the app.

Organizing & Defining

To better illustrate our findings to the Stakeholders, through all data gathered, two main personas were created in order to define the pain points & goals we will be working on:

Presenting the personas and confirming with the Stakeholders & engineers all our priorities and any technical requirements we defined the following steps to work on. We started organizing the blueprint of the app through Information Architecture to better structure the User Journey & User Flow.

Ideation & Prototyping

Using the structure created before as the guide it was time to move on and sketch the first wireframes. Here we worked on the main priorities to finally have some screens ready to be tested.

Through the testing phase we learned the importance of making very evident the indoor farm inside environment state and by levels. I added furthermore information per level so the specialized team could identify quickly what needed to be changed to have the perfect outcome of healthy and good looking plants:

The developer and I had multiple meetings in order to understand some technical issues and limitations we would have in terms of developing it. Only after we agreed on all the points to be changed I could do the handover and finally have the team use it to improve the Raumgarten to its optimal performance.

Next Steps

This was just the very start of the app which later on will be adapted to the end users that are not specialized in indoor farming and will have great benefit from this learnings.
